Overview
Heman Chong (b. 1977, Muar, Malaysia) is a Singaporean artist, curator, and writer whose multidisciplinary practice explores the intersections of image, performance, and writing. Known for his conceptual precision and engagement with speculative narratives, his work frequently draws from science fiction to examine how individuals and societies imagine the future through language, objects, and systems. Recent solo exhibitions include The Endless Summer at UCCA Dune, Beidaihe, China (2024–2025), and The Book of Equators at Amanda Wilkinson Gallery, London (2024), which presented layered paintings reflecting on colonial histories and tropical imaginaries. He has participated in group exhibitions such as Lahore Biennale 03 (2024) and is due to feature in Sharjah Biennale 16 (2025). A major retrospective will open at the Singapore Art Museum in spring 2025. His work is held in public collections including the Singapore Art Museum, Kadist, and the National Museum of Art Osaka.
