I had previously worked on some music-related videos, such as “Fire!/Hendrix” in 1982 and Artbreak, MTC Networks, Inc, in 1987. Almost all my work has also involved collaborations with musicians, such as in “Damnation of Faust Trilogy,” (1983 – 1987), or even the earlier work “PM Magazine,” shown at documenta 7 (1982.) This holds true for the later work, as well – such as “Erwartung” (2001) and “Arabesque” (2011), done with gaining the release of musicians who had posted their piano renditions of Robert Schumann’s “Arabesque” and Clara Schumann’s “Romanze no. 11 (I believe that is the number of her work “Romanze”) on YouTube. Regarding the four stills of Michael Jackson: I was interested in examining imagery from one of the Michael Jackson videos These four images that I took off-screen seemed to be the perfect iconic image of Michael Jackson – identifying his body language and gesture, without seeing the details of his face, etc. The almost silhouette outlines are enough to know and recognize this legend/icon.
