This painting is included in the current exhibition at The Garden Museum, London, 'Derek Jarman: My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon', which focuses on Jarman’s love of gardening and his passion for the natural world. The exhibition evokes Prospect Cottage where he created a unique garden celebrated by horticulturists for its innovative response to the barren shingle of Dungeness. Jarman was also acutely aware of climate change, noting the effect of drought-stricken summers on the garden. This work is one of a series of ‘slogan paintings’ made in 1992: 'I dreamt of the paintings of my youth. Wild rumblings from the 50s in New York. I hadn't enjoyed much since that time. Shipwrecked and lost in this work. The paintings burnt back the years. The heady smell of turpentine that filled my childhood with youthful optimism.' Derek Jarman, 6 March 1992. https://gardenmuseum.org.uk/exhibitions/derek-jarman-my-gardens-boundaries-are-the-horizon/
